The Moonstones of the Thunderbird Clan:
Red Hawk Moon/Totem: March 21 - April 19
Lessons: the need for emotions and passion in life and tempering our explosive energy when there are upsets or frustrations. The ability to root ourselves in foundations as well as to fly high and explore life to have a clear view. It's about gaining control over intense energy and transforming it into a catalyst for changes that are needed. It's about confronting fears and learning to be optimistic at times where risk is called for. It's about learning to be a leader through spiritual awareness and setting aside the destructive ego letting it burn out so we can be more patient. In that patience we develop our visionary skills of meditation, precognition, clairvoyance, etc. so that we can use them to serve our community and ourselves. It is up to us to see what we are getting into and here we learn to seek the overview so that we can take in the entire picture to hunt for our answers and bring them back to enlightenment. Awakening what many call the Kundalini within, and learning to work with your own energies on all levels. It teaches us that others may be critical or attack us but when we stand for our truths we sustain ourselves and do not have to allow their views to hold us back. Rapid development of psychic energies is common here along with understanding how to balance them by tempering the intensity we allow to flow from us.
Sturgeon Moon/Totem: July 23 - August 22
Lessons: Inner strength found in our heart, the bittersweet moments in life, and our projections of those issues onto others. Self-defense, boundaries, and protection that are part of the bittersweet aspects of life and the need to apply them from time to time … or to remove them and open more. It's here that the depths of our own needs teach us how to love others, to act from the heart, to show affection or face fears with inner strength and courage. Here we learn to not yield to impulses but to act without arrogance as we are part of the whole. Ideals are born, illusions shattered, and we learn to trust in life and ourself to move through it and survive. Trust of Spirit and Self, inner strength and courage, determination to achieve, willpower to succeed, loyalty, and tradition are some of the things we find here. As well there is the understanding of needing to persevere. Just as the Sturgeon itself has no teeth and *sucks up* it's food, we can learn through the process of osmosis to delve deep to the bottom of things and bring up the truth in them. It's needle-like body shows us how to pinpoint things and go after our answers. It's also about longevity for the Sturgeon is known as the King of Fishes and has been around since the time of the caveman. To the Ojibwa it is about depth and strength to learn about perseverance, depth, knowledge, generosity and even our sexuality.
Elk Moon/Totem: November 22 - December 21
Lessons: Perception and mirroring with others allows us to be balanced in tenderness and strength as we learn to teach. Here we learn about the power of the Beauty Way, to walk gently and proud at the same time and demonstrate respect and cooperative natures. The fair play issues of life are brought to the forefront as justice, equality and tolerance are brought into the light. This calls for strong minds and the ability to confront emotional fears in our relationships with others. Insights, determination, and open hearts are honed and we learn to avoid arguments while accomplishing goals. Through these teaching we learn about strength and honor in noble ways. We learn our limits and how to balance our efforts to maintain stamina or pacing ourselves and being patient in seeing results. We learn the cooperative efforts of living and working with others, to share the work and not try to do it all ourselves. Use and expenditures of our energy, when to delegate, when to work together, when to work alone…finding our stride. Again the balance of finding the masculine and feminine in ourselves as well as in the company we keep. Lessons in declaring our territory, of learning to bridge between territories or dimensions, and raise our energy levels accordingly. Here we learn to value companionship and community with All Our Relations and walk away from those we cannot find harmony with to protect the path we are walking as well as the young who walk with us.
