Hi Elk Woman,
Stone therapy is
a type of thermotherapy using deep penetrating heat from
smooth basalt rocks and alternating cold from marble
stones. It is an ancient healing art that was just
recently rediscovered. Its modern form came in 1994 when
a massage therapist from Tucson, AZ brought it back to
life. Since then it very quickly became the most
influential and demanded treatment in the SPA industry in
North America and had taken many forms. Physiological
benefits of alternating temperatures to the body have
long been scientifically and medically proven.
It goes beyond the physical experience of a
typical massage, and enters deeper dimensions of
relaxation, health and well being.

From what I understand, it improves the work of lymphatic
and immune systems, normalizes body functions, and
assists one's body in self healing. It also affects the
sensory system which stimulates production of
neuro-chemicals that brings sense of
well-being.
The ultimate goal of the
therapy is relaxation that will bring balance and
alleviate chronic and acute problems and I would like to
use this as an added tool in my healing work. So next
year, I am hoping to enter a program to learn more and
become certified.

Properties:
Basalt: interestingly,
Basalt is an igneous volcanic rock and is often used in
healing sessions to boost the reproductive system and to
enhance fertility. Basalt promotes balance in emotions
therefore it is a good stone to dissipate negative
energy.
Marble: is a familiar stone
in both Naturopathy and Homeopathy. Often sought as a
stone of "protection," and used as a
talisman. It is said Marble helps to enhance serenity,
bring guidance and order to disarray. An excellent stone
to balance the heart chakra therefore increasing calmness
and harmony. Also good to use during
meditation.
Hope this helps.Image
